What Is Bolt Manufacturing?
Bolt manufacturing refers to the entire process of transforming metal raw materials (such as wire and bar stock) into fasteners (bolts) with specific geometric shapes, dimensions, mechanical properties, and thread profiles through a series of machining processes.
Bolt manufacturing emphasizes precision engineering, material properties, and compliance with international standards such as ASTM, ISO, and DIN. The process includes operations such as forming, threading, heat treatment, and surface finishing.

How Are Bolts Manufactured?
Step 1: Raw Material Selection
- Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Titanium, Alloy Steel, Brass, Nickel Alloys.
Step 2: Cold Heading / Hot Forging
This stage forms the basic shape of the bolt.
- Cold heading is performed at room temperature, which helps preserve the material’s strength and continuous grain structure.
- Used for large or complex bolts, Performed at elevated temperatures, Suitable for heavy-duty applications.
Step 3: Thread Rolling
- Thread Turning, Thread Milling, Thread Grinding, Thread Rolling.
Step 4: Heat Treatment
For high-strength bolts such as ASTM A325 and A490, heat treatment is essential.
- Quenching and tempering to improve tensile strength, hardness, and wear resistance.
Step 5: Surface Treatment
- Eco-friendly Dacromet, Anodizing, Hot-dip galvanizing, Yellow zinc, Black zinc, Blue-white zinc
- Colored zinc, Teflon, Nickel plating, Chrome plating, Phosphating.
Step 6: Inspection & Packaging
- Dimensional inspection, Tensile strength testing, Hardness testing, Coating thickness measurement.
